What is the Role of a Health Care Assistant?

As a Health Care Assistant at Orchard Homecare Services Limited, you will be a key member of our frontline care team, delivering high-quality, person-centred support to individuals in their own homes. Your role is essential in promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing, while ensuring that each Service User receives compassionate and respectful care tailored to their unique needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and medication support
  • Foster independence and encourage Service Users to maintain control over their routines and choices
  • Offer companionship and emotional support, building trusting relationships
  • Ensure care is delivered in line with individual care plans and in collaboration with families and healthcare professionals
  • Maintain accurate records and report any changes in health or wellbeing
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety, dignity, and respect at all times

Essential Requirements:

  • Clear Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check (or willingness to obtain one).

  • Two satisfactory references.

  • Right to work in the UK.

  • Ability to travel between service users’ homes (walking, cycling, or access to personal vehicle if necessary).

Desired qualifications:

  • Previous experience in domiciliary care, health care, or support work.

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards it).

  • Basic skills in preparing meals and undertaking light household tasks.

  • Local knowledge of the Durham area and surrounding villages.
